You already know that the crystal of psychic energy
possesses the properties of a magnet. It attracts electronic particles of Teros from space. AY 595.
You already know that the crystal of psychic energy
possesses the properties of a magnet. It attracts parts of electrons of Teros from the space. The emanations of
the approaching waves surround man and color with their chemism the approaching particles of energy. This is the chemical
basis of so-called colored stars.
The planetary bodies radiate with different lights.
Similarly scientific are the sparks of psychic energy. The fires of the centers also radiate differently depending upon
the chemism of the metals of the body.

Therefore, we shall offer the radiance of the rays
of Infinity, into which there is carried not only the spirit but even stones, in a blending, as it were, of loftiest creation
with grossest matter. But in the whirlwind of Eternity the stone and the spirit are imponderable, for they are drawn
into the same magnet. The very realization of the magnet increases the attraction, focusing it upon intensification
of currents. These same vortices conquer space, and you do not know from what spheres the indivisible electron--nucleus
of Tamas and Teros--reaches you.
Ponder to what extent you can understand My language
and express it in your tongue. Similarly understand your reciprocative feelings and express them in the language of
your heart. This language of understanding and sympathy will open the first Gates to Infinity.
INFINITY Preface.
The function of the rays is contained in the blending
of all energies with the Fire of Space. If one could resolve the Solar Ray into its electrons, it may be found to contain
all elements that are in the cosmic, manifested, ray. The creativeness of the cosmic ray lies in the attraction and
dissolution of energies. If the molecular particles could be extracted from the ray, their attraction could be utilized.
Hence, one must adjust the forces of receptivity. Only striving from both ends will afford the necessary tension.
Explosion occurs because of noncoordination of energies. All chaotic manifestations are only evidence of noncoordination.
It may be said then that the tensive power of the cosmic ray is attracted toward Earth but meets with no responding vibration.
Yet upon this foundation are all creative manifestations built. The affirmation of the cosmic ray intensifies all activity.

If we know the crystal of psychic energy, then we know
the deposits of darkness. The highest ascent of Teros is echoed by the lowest descent of Tamas. AY 638.
Teros and Tamas must work like brothers, because the
representatives of Tamas and Teros must be inseparable. The spirit imbues the aura with radiation, but the network makes it
compact. By the realization of the defensive net one can protect the radiations; but it is impossible to stretch the network
without Teros, the ray of which, like a lantern, must find the break. Hence, there can follow the non-coordination of contact
with the outer world. LMG 90.
Tamas – (Sk.). The quality of darkness, foulness
and inertia; also of ignorance, as matter is blind. (TG)
Light manifests darkness. What will be then the opposite
to the light of psychic energy? Of course absolute darkness. This emanation of deadliness, of the void, and of nullity will
be the shadow of the fire of highest energy. If we know the crystal of psychic energy, then we know the sediment of darkness.

You ask how is one to understand that "Teros and Tamas
must work like brothers," (Illumination, page 91). Teros is synonymous with spirit, motion, or light. "Tamas is synonymous
with matter, inertia, or ignorance. The life of the Cosmos is composed of the equilibrium of these two elements. The predominance
in nature or in a human being of one of these elements leads to decomposition and final destruction. The necessity for equilibrium
of these elements can be seen in all of life. Thus, today we can see most clearly in the life of entire countries and nations
what comes of violation of equilibrium. People think that they have advanced in many ways, and they proudly point to their
mechanical achievements. But they are very little advanced in the knowledge of spiritual and ethical foundations. Man has
perfected himself in ways and means of fratricide, but he has lost the ability to think about the foundations of existence.
Indeed, those problems which could improve life remain neglected. Try to question the world at large and you will behold a
shameful spectacle. Only a minority will manifest some striving toward the foundations mentioned above, and even this minority
will timidly whisper about the Subtle World, about the continuity of life, about the significance of thought and the need
for ethical concepts. Acceleration of mechanical discoveries does not lead to concentration of thought. If we were to write
the history of knowledge concerning these foundations, it would speak clearly about the immobility of consciousness.
Therefore, if humanity wishes to flourish, it should
think of the foundations, and it should speedily intensify the actions of Teros, even at the expense of those of Tamas, for
otherwise it is impossible to re-establish the lost equilibrium And so, self-perfectment requires the balancing of these two
principles within oneself - Teros and Tamas. All the teachings of antiquity speak with unanimity about the concept of a Golden,
or Middle Path, about the Harmony which is understood as the equilibrium between spirit and matter. Thus, Teros and Tamas
should work as brothers. LHRII.
Psychic energy was sometimes called Teros. In the Hermetic
teaching one can find this expression: "The warrior Teros raised his shield." So was indicated the protective role of psychic
energy. Did you ever hear of a yogi’s being devoured by beasts? There was never such an occurrence, for no animal that
possesses a particle of instinct would dare pit itself against the shield of Teros. The essential thing is to summon Teros
out of the Chalice and into the extremities. The channels from the Chalice branch out to all the extremities, and some people
can sense the light of the Chalice as a tension in the fingers and toes. Others can sense the light of the Brahmarandhra center
with a corresponding feeling in the Chalice. All this is not metaphysics but a practical indication for application in life.
Many are in need of protection; why, then, not utilize one's own treasure?
It is not difficult to accumulate the energy of Teros
or to evoke it. And it is not advisable to lose consciousness at the decisive moment, for that would produce a condition not
unlike that of the so-called deadly eye. A yogi does not kill an animal by his own will; it is the evil will that smashes
itself against the shield of Teros. One has to understand that not a coercive will, but the accumulation of the Chalice, will
provide protection and permit action. AY 565.
The fire of Teros will illumine all accumulated treasures.
It will also, like the inextinguishable Brahmavidya, be a protection against the seductions of Maya. AY 575.
All one's surroundings are subject to the influence
of Teros. One can feel the invisible benevolence with which everything responds to the touch of the pure flame. AY 577.

The effort to understand the nature of prana or of
vital etheric energy, and the three qualities which distinguish it; these are (as you well know) inertia, activity and rhythm
or -giving them their Hindu names - tamas, rajas and sattva. When the mineral wealth of the world was undiscovered and unused,
we had the stage of tamas at its deepest and most inert point. Much concerning money today is related to the karma and destiny
of the mineral kingdom. With this, however, we need not here concern ourselves. The processes of the pranic life were originally
carried out in the realm of barter and the exchange of that which is found upon the surface of the earth and later went down
into the depths, thus bringing into fluidity the deepest and densest expression (from the human standpoint) of divinity. EXT

The qualities of matter or substance itself are involved.
Inertia is the slowest and the lowest aspect of material substance and is called in the Eastern philosophy, the quality of
tamas. It has to be transmuted into a higher quality, that of activity or (giving it its technical term) its rajasic quality,
and this leads later on to the highest quality of rhythm or sattva. To the rhythm of life under which the Christ and the Spiritual
Hierarchy operate, and which vibrates in harmony with human need and hierarchical response, I call you not. I do, however,
call you to demonstrate the quality of activity and to refuse to hide behind alibis. EXT 622.
The Aspect of Bliss, or Will, imposes on Matter the
quality of Inertia - Tamas, the power of resistance, stability, quietude.
The Aspect of Activity gives to Matter its responsiveness
to action - Rajas, mobility.
The Aspect of Wisdom gives it Rhythm - Sattva, vibration,
harmony. It is by the aid of Matter thus prepared that the Aspects of Logoic Consciousness can manifest themselves as Beings."

The attribute of inertia (or tamas) characterizes the
lower personal self, the sheaths of the threefold lower man.
The attribute of activity is the prime characteristic
of the soul, and it is this quality which causes the intense activity and constant labor of the man as he seeks experience
and later, as he seeks to serve.
The attribute of rhythm, or balance, is the quality
of the spirit or monad and it is this tendency to perfection which is the cause of man's evolution in time and space and the
factor which carries all life through all forms to the consummation. LOS 148.
Concomitance, or pervasiveness. This is the all-pervasive
nature of every element; its inherence. It is the sum total of the three gunas, tamas, rajas and sattva. Every element according
to its place in the manifested scheme is characterized by inertia, activity or rhythm. It is inherent in substance. Only the
rate of vibration differs. There is the correspondence to every element on every plane. LOS 344.

Therefore, an atom is (as Lord Kelvin in 1867 thought
it would ultimately turn out to be) a "vortex ring," or center of force, and not a particle of what we understand as tangible
substance. This ultimate particle of matter is now demonstrated to be composed of a positive nucleus of energy, surrounded
- just as is the sun by the planets - with many electrons or negative corpuscles, thus subdividing the atom of earlier science
into numerous lesser bodies. The elements differ according to the number and arrangement of these negative electrons around
their positive nucleus, and they rotate or move around this central charge of electricity as our planetary system rotates
around the sun. Professor Soddy, in one of his latest books, has pointed out that in the atom is to be seen an entire solar
system, - the central sun can be recognized, with the planets pursuing their orbital paths around it. CA 35.
The negative and positive ions with which the scientist
deals are etheric in nature and, therefore, of the physical plane. These unseen particles of substance which can only be traced
through their effects and through interference with their activities, are rapidly moving particles in relation to each other
and, at the same time, are themselves affected by a greater controlling factor which keeps them so moving. EH 370.
They are the lowest residue of the previous system,
and the energy of that matter (liquid, gaseous and dense) which the vibration of the logoic permanent atom (on the plane adi)
attracts to itself in the building of the divine form. For purposes of clarification [50] and of generalization, it might
be noted that the seventh Hierarchy is the life or energy found at the heart of every atom, its positive aspect, and the sixth
Hierarchy is the life of the forms of all the etheric bodies of every tangible object. The function of this Hierarchy is well
described in the words of the Old Commentary:
"The devas hear the word go forth. They sacrifice themselves and out of their
own substance they build the form desired. They draw life and the material from themselves, and yield themselves to the divine
impulse." - A Treatise on Cosmic Fire, p. 1196-1207
This apparent congestion is, after all, but the exceeding
electronic activity or energy of the mass of negative atoms awaiting the stimulation that will result from the presence of
a certain number of positive atoms. This needs to be borne in mind. The work of evolution is based on two methods and demonstrates
as: Involution, wherein the negative electrons of matter preponderate. The percentage of these feminine
electrons is one of the secrets of initiation and is so vast during the involutionary stage that the rarity of the positive
atoms is very noticeable; they are so rare as only to serve to keep the mass coherent. TCF 322.
Here again is demonstrated the truth of the teaching
given by H. P. B.
